Anti depression tabs (never know how long you’ll be alone), Bear grylls knife (cause he’s says it’s the best), lotion, whistle, hand saw, lighter, doom (hate spiders), peaceful sleep (cause mozzies are worse), Kit-Kat for a break and fire starter (cause you never know when you want to bring the house down)
I would take a leather man. As it can be used for many thinks( like the old swiss army knife but for the new age), a lighter, a magnifying glass (cause you want a alternative to light a fire, don’t want to use the lighter up to fast.) , a first aid kit, piece of rope(multi purpose can be used to build a shelter or traps etc), a small light weight cooking pot (Can be used for boiling water or cooking food), a water flask and last but not least I will take a crossbow. (Arrows can be retrieved and used again. Can be used to hunt and to protect yourself )

A virus breaks out, all hell breaks loose, knowing most South Africans will probably be unprepared. Me, unfortunately I am included in the “most” so I’ll have to count on what I’ve learned from watching survival horror movies one such movie that has always stuck with me, Zombieland the 11 rules have always stuck with me.

Since the virus has just broken out, household item are all I have to begin with, these are what I will take with me to venture outside to hopefully find help, better shelter or if I’m lucky Milla Jovovich.

Good old faithful, hasn’t been used in the past few years since leaving school still in a good condition.
Bag Contents: One 2 liter bottle of Water, Mini first aid kit, 2 packets of moms provita biscuits, Vape gear (mechanical mod with Rda and 2 batteries) to light fire, Flashlight, needle and thread (thanks again mom), and crowbar, duct tape, newspaper (warmth and fire)
Items carried on body: 4 knifes each of different size all in kitchen drawer, (had this idea since way back) pool stick with a knife securely attached to the lower part to be used as a weapon.
Lastly my trusty trained dog, the most important part of my survival. Best friend and the Kopis to my Aspis.
Hi would first pack my xbox one and my copy of the division game to play in my spare time? then i will pack my MacGyver survival guide because he knows how to make anything… Then i will pack my rambo knife to cut stuff. Will also pack my chuck Noris comic book to read in the spare time… Lol would love to get the winning pack that would seal my collection and will make it easier to dress for this years rage expo in jhb. I’d take that parachute cord thing(like the one you got in the COD Ghosts hardened edition)That is actually a multi tool used in the military.
A mini crow bar for breaking into abandoned barred windowed houses
A tazer for close encounters (Give them a shock treatment)
Pepper spray(the liquid squirt one) for distance attackers (In da eyes and mouth bwahahaha)
If I’m lucky and one of the attackers has a gun and I’ve disarmed him(tazed him/her……. uuuuupgggraaaade, level Up + , add that to my inventory)
Well depending on the size of the survival kit i will include;
* one braai grid – for those moments when you need a quick fire and something to eat, one never knows who you might hook up with, and everyone always enjoys a social around a fire.
* A bottle or two of Jagermeister – to warm you up on those cold nights, or hell even just a shot for some dutch courage.
* A few bottles of Aqua Vita Water – not wanting to waste all the Jagermeister, i would of course rather drink some H20
* LWMAG calendar – keep track of days alone of course, and for the odd lonely night
* Vonzipper shades – keep out them nasty UVs during the day
* a midget clown – well then, could have multiple uses, but main aspect will be to lighten up the mood on those really depressive days
as a side note, i will leave my phone at home, get some piece and quite, i mean what more do i need if i packed in the above 😀

Shelter and warmth
A variety of materials are recommended for emergency shelters, and vary between geographic regions. Options often included in survival kits may consist of:
Reflective “aluminized” (Mylar coated) space blanket or survival blanket to retain body heat (and signal)
Lightweight poncho for protection against wind and rain
Tarp with grommets or tie-tapes
Large plastic trash bag as poncho or expedient shelter roof
Ferro cerium rod (AKA “Metal match”, “Hot Spark”, “Fire steel”, “Magnesium fire starter”) and fire striker for fire-starting, Fire piston or Solar Spark Lighter
Waterproof matches or lighter
Cotton balls or pads smeared with petroleum jelly for fire starting (can be carried in 35 mm film container, zip lock baggie or heat-sealed inside large diameter plastic straw)
Catalytic heater and bottled gas fuel
Emergency sleeping bag great for shelter and warmth
Health and first aid
First aid kits will often include a combination of the following:
Bandages Sterile combine dressing, and gauze pads
Adhesive tape, and gauze tape Disinfectant pads
A 30-day supply of personal prescription medication
Antibiotic cream Rubbing alcohol
Burn cream
Aspirin
Sunscreen (where appropriate, above 30 SPF)
100% UV protective sunglasses (“UV 400”) (protects eyes from harmful UV radiation. Polarized glasses are not necessarily UV protective, but aid with glare only)
Food and water
Most survival kits involve sustenance for short periods of time, to be used and replenished before contents spoil.
Water in sealed containers for dry areas, or water purification tablets or household bleach in areas where water is available but may be contaminated. For emergency water purification see: water purification techniques
Canteen full of water, and a filter if needed
Heavy duty aluminum foil to create a distillation tube to remove salt from salt water during boiling/condensation. Must have another receptacle to collect condensate.
Canned food, Meals Ready-to-Eat (MRE), or high-energy foods such as chocolate or emergency food bars.
Fishing line and gear (fish hooks, lures, and split shot leads)
Snare wire
Gillnetting (for emergency fishing)
Some dry fruits, peanuts or roasted grams,
Signaling, navigation and reference
A U.S. Marine signalling an aircraft with a signal mirror.
Since the primary goal of a survival kit for lost or injured persons is rescue, this part of the kit may be considered the most essential. Key elements for rescue include:
Distress radio beacon
Whistle
Signal mirror
High power LED light (able to have batteries replaced, and carry an extra battery), white lens, with signalling capabilities. Strobe versions are available for some lights. Use lithium cells only, due to superior shelf life.
Flare: three fires in a triangle is the international distress signal
Laser pointer with lithium batteries, for superior signalling range. Laser pointers have resulted in at least one rescue: during the night in August 2010 two men and a boy were rescued from marshland after their red laser pen was spotted by rescue teams.[2]
Surveyor’s tape – orange or chartreuse for marking location for rescuers
Pen/pencil and paper for leaving notes to rescuers about direction of travel
Compass. Analog watch can also be used to determine orientation when the sun is visible – See direction finding using a watch
Trail maps/charts (if location is known in advance)

Multipurpose tools or materials
Survival kit tools emphasize portability and versatility. Tools recommended for many types of survival kit include:
Bow saws about 24 inches (61 cm) in length are lightweight and fast-cutting.
A small Snow Peak portable stove running on MSR gas and the stove’s carrying case Fixed-blade knife, or multitool such as a Swiss Army knife.
Can opener such as the P-38 or the P-51
Heavy-duty needle and thread for repairing clothing and equipment
Red or orange plastic bag(s) or trash bags
Sturdy cord or “550” parachute cord for setting up a tarpaulin and snaring small animals
Hatchet with sheath for cold conditions, or machete for tropical conditions (shelter and fire)
Camp stove or some type of gas burner and fuel such as bottled propane or Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
Candles for light, signalling, fire-starting
Metal billycan or “water bottle” for water storage, boiling, purification, cooking
Compact saw such as Japanese style backsaw with coarse teeth (folding models available). Bow saws can quickly cut larger diameter limbs and small to medium thick trees, and Folding saws can be small enough to fit into a kit, but big enough to cut small to medium diameter limbs, and possibly smaller trees.
