Off The Lip Movember Surf Jam

Surfers hit the Llandudno beach, Cape Town on Saturday (1 November) for the Off The Lip Movember Surfing Jam. Quiksilver, the event organiser and major supporter and partner of the Movember foundation decided to stage this year’s event in the Cape. Over 45 competitors were greeted by 4 foot surf with 70’s dress-up and old school surfboards being the order of the day.

Eight 6 man heats were surfed with the traditional beach start resulting in a 6 man final. Jacob Mellis picked up some great waves in the tricky conditions to take home the win. Neil Zietsman and Luke Christy-Smith followed closely in 2nd and 3rd, with Ike Forsyth in 4th. Brandon Jackson from Durban finished in 5th and goofy-footer Kyle Lane rounded the final off in 6th.

The following novelty prises were given out: Best 360 – Brandon Jackson, Biggest wipe-out – Neil Zietsman, Best Layback – Matt Davis, Best Floater – Jarred Velduis, Best Barrel Ride – Luke Christy-Smith, Best Vertical Manoeuvre – Kyle Lane and Best Mo Sista – Tasha Mentasti.

Legendary surfers Gavin Rudolph and Tich Paul were on hand to judge while 70’s rock music created the vibe. The next Movember surf event will be held on the 22nd November at Beach Bums in Durban, so make sure not to miss the great day out.
