A truly inspiring story is that of Thalente Biyela whose life was saved by Skateboarding. A 19 year old that has been homeless since the age of 11 and who found refuge at a local Skatepark in Durban. After a year of literally living on the streets, selling drugs and sleeping at the Skatepark, Thalente was given a Skateboard in which he found an escape from the realities of street life.
I AM THALENTE is a documentary about the Skateboarder who was once homeless and his journey from the streets of Durban to Los Angeles and into the heart of Skating. With the support of LRG and Bombshell Skate companies, the guidance from pro skaters Guy Mariano, Marc Johnson and Kenny Anderson, the producers are using the film funding platform, Seed & Spark to help finance the completion of this amazing documentary.
Thalente’s effortless style and natural understanding of Skateboarding attracted attention from the industry, locally and internationally. Last year Thalente was given the opportunity to travel to LA to skate with some of the world’s best. Built on friendships, community, an understanding of one another irrespective of location, he discovered the spirit of Skateboarding.
