WOMZA SA Motocross Nationals Round 2 Results

Round 2 of the 2014 Monster Energy TRP Distributors WOMZA South African Motocross Nationals headed to a hot and sunny Cape Town over the weekend of the 19th and 20th April. The sandy Melbos MX tracks played host to the racing and has become known as one of the roughest and most challenging tracks in SA. Fitness and horsepower was a key factor at this round of the series. Motocross fans in their masses gathered to catch their piece of the action.

The 125 Highschool class produced some insane battles with Drico van der Westhuizen, Jason Visser and Bevin Potgieter all going for the top spot of the podium. Visser came out on top with Potgieter following in 2nd and Van der Westhuizen in 3rd.

A stacked MX2 class took to the gate for 3 heats of intense and close racing. Local rider, Anthony Raynard was the favourite to take the win but he couldn’t hold off the hard charging Wyatt Avis. Avis proved he has been putting in some hard work and won 2 of the 3 heats to take the overall. Raynard had to settle for 2nd place overall. Kerim Fitzgerald posted his best finish of the year so far with a respectable 3rd place, just ahead of his teammate, Ross Branch who had good starts the whole weekend but rode the final heat with a sprained thumb.

Sacha Naude dominated the MX1 class and took the win in all 3 heats. Close racing in this class saw just 5 point separate the 2nd to 5th place riders. Royce Griffin, Lloyd Vercueil, Kerim Fitzgerald and Michael Kok battled it out through all 3 heats. Fitzgerald went 6 – 2 – 2 to take 2nd overall. Lloyd Verueil went 2 – 3 – 4 for 3rd overall. Michael Kok went 3 – 5 – 3 for 4th and Royce Griffin went 4 – 4 – 5 for 5th overall.

Round 3 of the series heads to Richards Bay to the rider favourite Teza MX Circuit on the 14th and 15th June. Book the date now and make sure you’re there to catch the action.
