Wake to Wonder have just released their fun music video for their single Betty’s Not So Spiritual to the South African Music scene. We caught up with lead vocalist, Adam Boyd to chat to him about the video and the filming of it. Check out both the video and interview here:
How was the song “Betty’s not so Spiritual” thought of and put together and who does it relate to?
This is the only lyrically fun song on the album which pokes fun at the average hipster who sees the world and everything in it as a spiritual experience. All in jest of course.
How did the idea of the video come about and what did you want to make sure to capture?
This was one of the first videos that we didn’t want to broadcast a message through visuals. We took this song as an opportunity to do a party video and just have a day of fun with some good friends. We are super excited with the way it turned out.

Where was it filmed and how long did it take?
We filmed the video at our drummers house (Graeme Swale) in Kempton park and it took around 11 hours to complete shooting.
What was one of the most memorable moments during the filming of the video?
The whole day was an absolute blast and we had such a laugh at all the funny things our director made us do. For me, I would have to say our bassists (Werner Ainslie) shot where he was watering the garden in his bathrobe with the most ridiculous looking fake moustache on, he seemed to be in his element, I think there is a gardener hidden somewhere deep inside him. [laughs]
What was it like watching Dominique (who plays Betty) spray herself with water and how many times did that shot have to be taken?
The music video was shot in the middle of winter and by the time that shot came around the sun was starting to go down. Needless to say it was rather chilly but Dominique was such a sport and completed the scene wearing the smallest shorts and bikini without batting an eyelid. She had the neighbours rather interested.
