Wake the Goon Review

The Red Bull Wake the Goon Wakeskating contest supported by Fox SA took place at La Mercy Lagoon in KZN with some of South Africa’s top wakeskaters there to compete and battle it out behind the winch for the cash prize purse. Cold and windy weather did not stop the riders from busting aerial moves out of the man made pool and then performing technical moves on the slider to score maximum points.

The contest consisted of two 24 minute jam sessions where riders were scores on their tricks and lines. The top 2 riders from each heat moved through to the 45 minute final. In the end Darren Turner and Dylan Mitchell were tied for first and had to go head to head again in a tie breaker run. Turner had the upper hand on Mitchell and was crowned the Wake the Goon champion.
