Vodacom In The City Takes Over Downtown Jozi

The 3rd annual Vodacom In The City produced a bigger and better festival than ever before. The cold Jozi night air did not deter South African music fans from having the time of their lives. The setup was on point with a host of food stalls, big bar areas and activation stations.

We loved the Jose Cuervo bars serving tequila cocktails and shooters to the masses. Shap Shap Crafted Premium Cider provided a new taste in cider with a bunch of different flavour that were all awesome.

PHFAT kicked the night off with an phenomenal and explosive set. The rap duo won their spot on the stage winning the Open The City contest by receiving the most votes. PHFAT lived up to expectations and were a well deserved fit for VITC, and got the party started right.

Crystal Fighters graced the stage next. Nat many festival goers knew what to expect from the alternative dance band but we guarantee that every single person enjoyed what they brought to the stage. Their sound, music outlandish costumes and stage performance changed lives on Friday night. Crystal Fighters took us on a touching tribute of thanks for their former drummer who tragically passed away just a few weeks ago.

Most were excited to see MGMT and when the stage lit up for their set, the crowd went crazy. The performance was not what was expected though. MGMT rocked the hell out of their popular songs, 3 of them, which had everyone jamming and singing along. But, the rest of their set was disappointing. Their psychedelic and trippy sound was boring, not to mention their stage performance. A disappointment to most we are guessing.

Rudimental was a warm welcome picking up the tempo with their drum and bass meets soul session and, wow, were they awesome. They exceeded expectations and took over VITC for the full set seeing festival goers bouncing throughout. Thank you Rudimental.

The Australian electronic duo, The Presets closed off VITC and were incredible. Captivating and had attendees in the palm of their hands with their spectacular pounding tracks and stage graphics.

All in all, Vodacom In The City was an absolute blast and a very well organised festival. The post event depression has set in.
