The 2021 UCI Downhill MTB World Cup season kicked off over the weekend in Leogang, Austria. Wet and muddy track conditions through timed practice and qualifying proved to be testing but a dryer track for the final race, with the infamous woods section remaining the crunch point, delivered an unpredictable and exciting season-opener.
In the Men’s race, Amaury Pierron made his return to racing with a solid result putting him into 3rd place. World Champion, Reece Wilson, also had a solid run and slotted himself into 4th place. Thibaut Dapréla was impressive throughout the weekend and was on a heater of a run, but a stall in the woods section cost him some time and saw him finish in 2nd place. Troy Brosnan was the last man down the hill and built momentum through his run to cross the line in 1st place.

In the Women’s race it was World Champion Camille Balanche who proved to be the fasted and took the overall win. Vali Höll, in her first elite race, had qualified in first and was on track to take the win but a crash in the final turn cost her time as she crossed the line in 2nd. Monica Hrastnik was consistent and took home 3rd place.
