This past weekend saw another double-header round of the 2020 UCI Downhill MTB World Cup season tale place in Lousa, Portugal. Round 3 took place on Friday 30 October on a track hailed as one of the best in recent history resulting in a close and thrilling race.
After an off pace qualifier, Aaron Gwin took the early lead in the Men’s race with a time of 3:58.301 that would ultimately see him drop down to 4th overall. Greg Minnaar, who qualified in 4th, put on an absolute master class with a perfect run in a time of 3:55.239 that no other rider could match on the day. Minnaar secured his 80th podium and 22nd World Cup Win. Luca Shaw made a mistake in his run which put him out of contention while Matt Walker looked on course to beat Minnaar until he lost momentum posting a time of 3:57.072 for 2nd overall. Loic Bruni took the 3rd spot with a time of 3:57.199. Loris Vergier was the last man down the mountain but a front puncture took him out of the running.

Myriam Nicole took a convincing win in the Women’s race with a time of 4:26.325 ahead of a hard charging Marine Cabirou who finished in 2nd with her time of 4:30.722. Tahnee Seagrave looked on form and crossed the line with a time of 4:31.400 to take 3rd place. Tracey Hannah finished in 4th with last round’s winner Nina Hoffmann taking home 5th.
