The opening race of the 2019 UCI Downhill MTB World Cup season took place at Maribor in Slovenia over the weekend. The return to Maribor was both exciting for competitors and fans alike as the course proved to be challenging with close racing.
In the Men’s Division, Danny Hart put down a blistering run early in the day to take the hotseat with a time of 2:59.243. It looked as if no one would be able to take the hotseat away from Hart until Loic Bruni sent it down the hill to cross the line in the winning time of 2:58.839. Troy Brosnan was hot on the leaders heals and crossed the line with a time of 2:59.603 to take 3rd place.
All eyes were on Rachel Atherton in the Women’s Division to see how she’d fair on her new Atherton Bikes machine but it was Tahnee Seagrave who was fastest on the day with a time of 3:25.888. Atherton had to settle for 2nd with her time of 3:26.743. Tracey Hannah, who qualified fastest, finished in at time of 3:28.526 to secure 3rd place.
