The fifth stop of the 2019 UCI Downhill MTB World Cup took place in Les Gets,France over the weekend. Having last seen a World Cup in 2004, it was an exciting change for the riders as the course was wide open with extremely fast paced sections.
In the Men’s race Amaury Pierron rode on the edge, a man possessed, to put in a time of 2:57.008 – 2.352 seconds faster than his closest rival to take the win. Loic Bruni stormed down the dusty course to bring it home in 2nd place with a time of 2:59.360. Laurie Greenland was on form and finished in 3rd place with his time of 3:00.458. Loris Vergier rounded off the top five with a time of 3:01.514. Brendon Fairclough’s impressive time of 3:01.644 saw him take 6th overall, while South Africa’s Greg Minnaar took 7th place with a time of 3:02.053.

The Women’s race saw a hotly contested battle between Marine Cabirou and Tracey Hannah that came down to the line. Cabirou put down what looked to be an unbeatable run with a time of 3:28.277 to take the hotseat. Hannah was the last rider down the hill and matched Cabirou’s pace, eventually crossing the line just 0.667 seconds faster to take the win with her time of 3:27.600. Mariana Salazar’s time of 3:29.771 put her into 3rd place.
