Video | 2019 Downhill MTB World Cup Leogang Podium Runs

The third stop of the 2019 UCI Downhill MTB World Cup took place in Leogang, Austria over the weekend. The track, with newly added sections, produced extremely exciting and close racing. There was no room for error forcing riders to put a perfect top-to-bottom run together in order to be in contention.

Greg Minnaar had a pearler of a weekend and was back to form qualifying fastest on Saturday in the Elite Men’s Division. In the finals, Loic Bruni put down and blistering run with a time of 3:16.132 – a time that looked to be unbeatable as rider after rider raced down the hill without being able to match Bruni’s pace. Loris Vergier, who qualified in 2nd, was close but lost it in one of the final corners and got back up to cross the line in 19th place. Troy Brosnan showed the pace and came close to Bruni’s time but it wasn’t enough as he had to settle for 3rd place with his time of 3:16.878.

Greg Minnaar was the last man down the hill and although he was slightly back through the first sectors, he gained momentum throughout his run and crept closer and closer to Bruni’s time. It was a nail-biting finish as Minnaar crossed the line just 0.324 seconds off Bruni’s time to take 2nd place. Minnaar now sits 5th in the championship standings.

Kate Weatherly took the hot-seat early on in the Elite Women’s Division with a time of 3:51.467 that would ultimately see her finish in 3rd place. Nina Hoffman, hot off her first top three finish at the last stop in Fort William, finished in a time of 3:44.542 to take 2nd place. Rachel Atherton, who qualified 2nd fastest, unfortunately crashed out of contention early in her run and crossed the line in 15th position. The fastest qualifier, Tracey Hannah, put together a perfectly balanced run to finish in 3:42.107 to take the overall.
