Urban Descent Downhill Longboard Race Report

The inaugural Urban Descent downhill longboard skateboarding race took place this past weekend on the hills of KZN, Alan Paton Road to be exact, in what turned out be a hugely successful event in extremely windy conditions. Over 70 skaters took to the streets to compete in the 5 divisions held throughout the day. Top skaters hit speeds of over 66km/h on the over 1 kilometre length course which featured bends and chicanes.

Jason Brown won the Open Men’s division and was a clear standout on the day during the morning qualifying rounds but in the final he was closely contested by several other skaters who all had the potential of taking the win. Brown took the win over Stephen Hayes in 2nd and Ricki Allardice in 3rd.

Winners in the other divisions included Odin Kerkhof in the Boys under 10 years division, Davis Beare in the Boys 14 years and younger division, Mike Davies in the Boys 15 – 18 years division and Cindy Kritzinger in the Open Ladies division.

The contest boasted a total prize value of R40 000 and R5 000 in cash.
