The Shred skatepark in Cape Town recently hosted the first annual Winter Jam skateboarding competition, in association with Vans, Red Bull, Skullcandy and Action Sports Africa.
Consisting of 50 skaters, of which 20 were invited and 30 more via slots through online video submission entries. Skaters of all ages and across the country came together to give it their best to win their piece of the R25 000 prize purse.
The 30 video entry competitors went against each other in the qualifiers with only 10 qualifying through to the semi-finals to compete against the 20 invited riders. Once the judges gave their scores it was onto the finals where the top 12 competed for the grand prize of R10 000.
Allan Adams came in hard and took the win with his older brother Moses Adams in 2nd and Thalente Biyela taking 3rd.
The Best Trick took place on the picnic bench and handrail. Both best trick sections were destroyed by Allan Adams – his Kickflip Backside Lipslide down the handrail saw him win a Casio G-Shock watch.
