We interview up and coming band The Olympic about their new music video for “The City Sleeps” shot over the last 6 months in Pretoria and surrounding areas as well as some of their live gigs. Watch the Music video and then check out the interview which follows:

How long has The Olympic been around?
More or less 2 years.
How did you guys get started?
Charl (vocals) and Fred (Guitar) started the project a few years ago while playinig with other bands. Both of them wanted to do something fresh and unique but most importantly something that they wanted to do and that felt right for them. After writing and recording a few tracks, Deon (bass) and Chokkie (drums) were fitted to the bill to complete the line-up which is The Olympic.
What is “The City Sleeps” about?
Its about reflecting upon oneself and having some one-on-one Q&A time, as we all had or should have at some point in our lives. Being honest with yourself and to follow your heart.
Where did you film the music video and how long did it take?
The music video was filmed all over really, whenever we had a cam we just shot. Mainly Pretoria and surroundings, Arcade Empire, Oppikoppi, Potchefstroom. We took the footage over a space of 6 months or so.
Who came up with the concept and why?
The concept was/ is pretty straight forward. We felt we needed to get some material out after we released “The Wait” a year ago. We wanted to showcase some live footage to show people that have not seen us live what we are all about. So we decided to use that together with random footage of the band and incorporate it with some shots of our city and driving at night in the city that links to the title of the song.
What’s next for The Olympic?
We are in the process of recording our debut EP, which should be available early next year 2013. Also hoping to play a few festivals and a tour or two maybe! We are also in the planning phase for our next video/ single called “Rooftops” that will be different to what people have seen so far from us. So stay tuned as we are really amped for that!
