The Night Harvest 2015 Review

On Friday 6th March 2015 the annual, and much anticipated, dirt BMX and MTB contest went down in Cape Town – The Night Harvest. Boasting the best setup the Potato Trails has ever seen and the biggest host of international riders competing. The night was set to be total dirt jumping mayhem and that exactly what it was.

Perfect calm weather greeted the riders as the warm up heats got underway and the masses gathered to catch the action. Round 1 of the MTB saw an array of huge and technical tricks from Backflips to Tailwhips and even a Frontflip by Danny Pace. Local riders Andrew and Jonty Neethling impressed while Thomas Sandel blew the commentators minds. Local trails rider and builder, Justin Novella took home the Best Local Rider Award.

The BMX comp had a huge contingency of riders boasting local and international talent which had the crowds going crazy. International SA rider Greg Illingworth took a dirt sample during the night but that didn’t stop him from going big. USA’s Kevin Peraza owned the show and was unstoppable with his huge back of tricks – Backflips, 360’s, 360 Triple Tailwhips. Peraza mention that he was super stoked on the event and that he’ll definitely be returning in 2016. UK’s Ben Hennon and Matt Priest finished off the podium in 2nd and 3rd. SA’s Malcolm Peters was on form throwing down some of the biggest tricks by a local rider.

In Round 2 of the MTB Canadian Matt MacDuff turned it up and pulled some huge airs and massive tricks out the bag putting pressure on the defending champ, Sam Reynolds. Reynolds had to keep up, seeing the two of them boost some off the biggest tricks seen on the night. Unfortunately mother nature came to the party and the strong wind put an early end to round.

Although the wind was still blowing strong the organisers and riders decided to go ahead with the Best Trick contest. MTB riders Sam Reynolds and Matt MacDuff stole the show by going bigger and bigger with every hit. MacDuff pulled and insanely technical Triple Truckdriver but it was Reynolds’ styling 360 Flip that took the win.

The Night Harvest lived up to its name of being one of the biggest and best dirt comps out there. A big congrats goes out to all the riders who competed and to everyone that made the event possible. Special thanks goes out to the sponsors – Monster Energy, Sony Xperia, Cape Frame Work Constructors, Imperial Ford, The Pole Yard, DMR Bikes, Fox and Cape Audio College.
