This past weekend, Superbalist In The City took over Joburg as thousands of South African music fans filled venues across the city. For the first time in the event’s history, it was expanded into a weekend festival featuring various music genres.

#SxITC2016 kicked off on Friday night with the Liftoff Party at the iconic And club. The best DJ’s in techno, house and electronic music spun the decks until the early hours of the morning. The likes of Andi Dill, Eric Volta, Zolabuddé, Ricardo da Costa, 2lani The Warrior and Keren Onay featured, headlined by English producer/ DJ Eats Everything.
On Saturday night Mary Fitzgerald Square was transformed into the Virgin Mobile Braam Beach Party. Sand, palm trees, inflatable pools, beach ball and good vibes made for a tropical party paradise.

Melo B, Shekhinah, DJ Capital and Julian Gomes got the party started before British DJ, Atjazz took to the decks. Stilo Magolide and Riky Rick followed and didn’t fail to entertain. The momentum kept going with P.H and DJ Tira before AKA closed the show.

The event shifted gears on Sunday with the In The City concert at Emmarentia Dam. A family event that saw fans on their thousands turn up, ready to be entertained. Local artists Sol Gems, Shortstraw and Grassy Spark got things warmed up before the international acts hit the stage.

UK’s Beardyman was the first international to grace the stage. His bass-filled live-looping and beatboxing wowed the crowd, a one man show that has to be experienced!
US rap sensation, Mac Miller was up next and had fans screaming for more. Dropping hits like “Dang” and “Weekend” brought a new level of energy.

Indie legends, Foster The People were the last international and closed the 3 day festival off perfectly. Their 90 minute set was nothing less than infectious, playing new songs to their well know hits and encoring with “Pumped Up Kids”.
