Supadrift Series 06 Review

The 6th round of the Auto Trader Supadrift Series took place at the Dezzi Raceway in Port Shepstone this past weekend, 17th August, for the 3rd and final time this year. The track’s versatile design allowed for a twist in format that forced drivers into a slow entry speed of just 85kph, before maneuvering around a 5 Switch drifting course which had the 5000 strong crown on their feet in excitement.

Drifting — Mikey Radloff leads with Morne Venter hot on his heels

In the qualifying rounds current championship leader, Jason Webb, took top points, and Clare Vale secured her maiden Auto Trader SupaDrift Series qualifying entry for the season. Quarter final pairings were well matched resulting in three of the four battles going in to ‘one more time’ rounds. Jason Webb avenged his SD02 loss to Rock Raceway drifter, Tim Stevens, by knocking him out. In the action packed set of races Wade van Zummeren beat Jim MacFarlane, Mikey Radloff faced Morne Venter and finished victorious, and Shane Gutzeit beat Mikey Skelton.

The semi final set old time rivals Jason Webb and Wade van Zummeren against each other, with Webb finishing victorious. Mikey Radloff and Shane Gutzeit followed with two exceptionally close runs, with the win awarded to Gutzeit. The competition was brought to a standstill as Radloff challenged the decision, sighting Gutzeit for clipping a cone. Following video footage review, the judges awarded the win to Gutzeit.

Much to the delight of the home crowd, local hero Shane Gutzeit faced top point scorer in the series, Jason Webb. Webb led the first run, followed closely by Gutzeit who spun out half way through the course. With Gutzeit’s turn to lead, Webb needed to complete the course without incident to win and, despite Gutzeit’s near perfect run; Webb ran a safe course to secure yet another win.
