SupaDrift Series 06 Race Report

A field of over 35 drivers gathered at the Rock Raceway in Brakpan this past weekend, 25th – 27th July, to compete in the 6th round of the AutoTrader SupaDrift Series which was a special feature of the Gauteng Motor show. The arena overflowed with action from South Africa’s premier drifting championship.

The competition heated up as the field moved to the Top 16. Jason Webb had a strong lead in his semi final against Hannes Frans but lost it when his fan belt came off. The pressure was on and Webb pushed his rival during their second run but was no match for Frans who knocked Webb out of the running.

Shane Gutzeit beat Jim McFarlane in their semi final to move though to the final against Hannes Frans. After two insane runs the judges couldn’t conclude the winner, so a “One More Time” was called. Gutzeit went on to take his first win of the series in some of the most exciting drifting the series has seen.
