SupaDrift Series 04 Race Report

The 2014 SupaDrift Series headed to Dezzi Raceway in Port Shepstone for the second time this season and for Round 4 of the premier South African drifting championship. Perfect track conditions made for one of the most thrilling events of the series to date.

Top contender Jason Webb failed to qualify leaving room the KZN favourites of Riaz Alibhai, Hannes Frans, Morne Venter and Jono Rudman to battle it out, with Frans and Rudman moving through to the nest round. Following his shake up on home soil in the previous event, Faheem Salie had a lot to prove. His efforts paid off and saw him finish in 9th place overall.

Drifting action at its best at round 4 of the supadrift series
After two perfect runs Shane Gutzeit beat Sean February in the Top 8 to move through. Wade van Zummeren smashed his runs which saw him move through to the semi finals convincingly. Paulo Gouveia and Hannes Frans had a giant battle around the track but it was Gouveia who advanced in the end to join in the semi’s

The action packed Semi Finals saw Shane Gutzeit face Jono Rudman and Wade van Zummeren face Paulo Gouveia. Van Zummeren’s earned a 2 point lead with his technical performance knocking Gouveia out of the event while Gutziet knocked out Rudman and prepared to take on van Zummeren in the final.

Supadrift Series 04 race report
A closely contested Final and two perfect runs from both drivers forced the judges to call a One More Time. Unfortunately on Gutzeit’s turn to lead, his car cut out on the line leaving it open for van Zummeren to take the overall win – all he needed to do was complete his turn to lead. which he did.
