The 2017 Ballito Pro presented by Billabong is in full swing at Willard Beach on the KZN coastline, featuring hotly contested surfing action. The Ballito Women’s Pro contest saw an all-international final with Australia’s Sophia Fulton defeating Hawaii’s Zoe McDougall for the title.

McDougall opened her account in the final with a 6.33, followed up by a 4.50. Fulton bounced back with a 3.38 and then found a wave that enabled her to string together a series of manoeuvres for a 7.50, putting her into the lead. McDougall needed a 5.01 score for the win and with seven minutes remaining. She caught two more waves but was unable to get the required score.

In the semifinals McDougall defeated Japan’s Reika Noro with her heat total of 12.34. Fulton beat fellow Australian, Pacha Luque-Light in a tight battle, advancing by 10.16 vs. 9.50.
The top places South African surfers were Kayla Nogueira and Nicole Pallet finishing in equal 5th after their quarterfinal clashes.
