Today sees the release of the Don’t Be Kak music video by Satanic Dagga Orgy. We caught up with SDO front man, Peter to chat about the video.

Where did the idea and inspiration for the Don’t Be Kak music video come from?
The entire concept was dreamt up by the director, Liza Ludick. She came up to us after a show and gave us the outline… picnic turns into food fight turns into real fight turns into make out session, and we were sold!
She says part of the idea was to tie in with the album cover from the Bromance EP and this video could almost be the next step in this spaghetti-tinged chain of events.
How much planning went into the video before you started filming?
Besides cooking about 7 kilograms of spaghetti, not much. We had a couple of meetings, decided on some key shots, thanks to camera wizard Shaun Hillary and then pulled the trigger
Who went out to buy the props, or are they all privately owned?
We have to thank Liza again for cooking the majority of the spaghetti and bringing through the bowls, cutlery and blankets for the picnic. The 19 inch double-ended dildo was bought by Zam and Pete in preparation for Oppikoppi, but we liked it so much we decided to debut ‘Donald Rump’ before August so fans can, ahem, get to know him.
Does the video have any type of message you’d like to get across to your fans, or haters?
From my perspective I’d say the message is, even if someone pisses you off, once you’ve handled the kak, be lekker. Haters are probably going to have an issue with two straight men kissing, but that’s ok, we don’t need homophobes for fans in any case.
What was the best part about filming the video?
I think once we got into our speedos for the fight scene we started having the most fun. Partly because we got to wrestle in speedos, and partly because we had members of the public passing by quite close to the set and the looks on their faces were priceless.
How long did filming take?
About 4 and a half hours, from set up to wrap. Luckily it was warm, unluckily we ran out of sunscreen.
What responses are you hoping the video will provoke from anyone who watches it?
We’re hoping for a mixture of uproarious laughter and mild nausea. But mostly laughter.
What’s next for Satanic Dagga Orgy?
We are POES excited to be playing Oppikoppi again this year, we’re on the James Philips stage at 4PM on Friday 5 August. That’s been a big focus for us, and we spent about R4000 on props and party favours to hand out to the crowd during our set. We also have 2 giant babies who will be spraying booze into the crowd. It’s going to be wild.
After that we’d like to get back into studio and start working on our first full-length album, the tentative title is ‘Sing Along With Satan’ but that will almost certainly change.
