The RVCA Junior Surfing Challenge took place this past weekend, 2 – 4 May, in Jeffrey’s Bay with inconsistent waves and occasional pulses coming through on the final day. Get the review and full results from one of the biggest junior surfing event on the calendar here.

Christian Venter came out firing in the U10 Boys final to pick up the early lead. Hot on his heels was James Ribbink who soon overtook the lead and held onto it for the remainder of the final. Christian Venter finished in 3rd behind Viviers Strydom who took 2nd place.
In the U12 Boys final James Ribbink stayed in the water and waited for the good set waves, which paid off as he won this division as well. York Van Jaarsveldt finished in 2nd with Tide-Lee Ireland in 3rd.
In the U14 Girls final it was Sophie Bell who was outstanding and took the overall with her highest scoring ride of 8.5 points out of a possible 10. Finn Musson followed in 2nd with Kirsty McGillivray in 3rd.
Sebastian Williams from Mexico and the only international surfer in the contest went of to take the win in the U14 Boys final. Koby Oberholzer pushed hard an came in a close 2nd. Angelo Faulkner finished in 3rd place.

Bevan Willis, the new kid on the block, surfed and explosive and powerful ride in the U16 Boys final against some fierce competition. Willis’ score of 10.75 points out of a possible 20 put him in 1st place ahead of Jordy Maree in 2nd and Jake Elkington in 3rd.
In the U20 Girls final the sisters, Gina Smith and Emma Smith duked it out with Jade Mets and Olivia Brand. In the end the Smith sisters took one-two with Emma Smith winning and Gina Smith finishing in 2nd. Jade Mets finished in 3rd place.
Matt McGillivray lay it all on the line in the U20 Boys final by throwing caution to the wind and throwing some successful areal moves like the big forehand air reverse which scored 6.75 and put him firmly in the lead. Max Armstrong fought back hard but its wasn’t enough and he had to settle for 2nd place overall. Dylan Lightfoot finished in 3rd.

Adin Masecamp win the Most Progressive Move Award.
Sophie bell was awarded the Girl Surfer of the Event award.
James Ribbink won the Male Surfer of the Event award.
