Rolling Retro 2014 Review

On Sunday, 9th February, a large mix of locals and spectators headed to the sun drenched Llandudno beach in Cape Town for the 2014 RVCA Rolling Retro surfing event. Many dressed-up in their old retro attire and ready for a fun filled day of old school vibes.

Seventies surfing vibes at the 2014 Rolling Retro event
This year saw the waves a little bigger and chunkier than previous years which added to the days entertainment with most of the surfers getting a fat lip to the head. The bigger surf luckily only saw one snapped board by Jeaque Smit in the first heat braking the desired Spowy. Most of the surfers avoided the bigger waves but in the Pro heats, Michael Gredon and Roosta showed the crowds just what the old school surfboards could do under the right feet.

Black Labels flowed, afternoon tunred into night and the Rolling Retro moved from the beach and surf to after-party as the crowd were entertained with local tunes from Bilderberg Motel, the Larter Brothers and retro DJ Ike. Rolling Retro was yet again another successful and fun event and a big shout-out goes to Kai Linder for putting together this epic event. A huge thank you also goes to the Lifesaving Club, Seth and the crew at Red Bull, Carling Black Label, Hurricane, Reef, Wetsac, our forecast and media partner, Wavescape and of course Vudu Surf and RVCA.
