The inaugural Quiksilver and Roxy J-Bay Junior Pro events took place over the weekend seeing the country’s best surfers compete in 3-4 foot surf at Magnatubes. The event ran as part of the J-Bay Winter Fest and catered for surfers under the age of 18.
An on form Jordy Maree took the victory in the U18 Boys division with high scores that were unbeatable by the rest of the field. Bevan Willis finished behind Maree with Adin Masencamp and Luke Slipjen rounding out in 3rd and 4th.
In the U18 Girls division it was Crystal Hulett who pulled out the stops late in the final to take the win. Zoe McDougall narrowly missed beating Hullet and had to settle for 2nd. Kai Woolf was impressive throughout the contest and ended up in 3rd. Danica Stockigt finished in 4th.
Sebastian Willaims’ scored big heat points with his progressive surfing and came out on top in the U16 Boys division. Angelo Faulkner, Luke Sljpen and Saxton Randall fought for the remaining spots and finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
Zoe McDougall found her form in the U16 Girls division and impressed the judges with powerful turns to take the overall. Kai Woolf and Kirsty McGillivray followed in the 2nd and 3rd. Snenhlanhlana Makhubu, surfing a division up, followed in 4th place.
Mitch Du Preez took victory in the U14 Boys in the final seconds of the final heat. Aya Gericke finished in a strong 2nd, Manoa Robb took home 3rd and Reilly Mare 4th.
Gabi Lailvaux used her strong backhand attached to claim the U14 Girls division. Kayla Nogueira surfed well and finished in a respectable 2nd place. Kelly Fenton and Snenhlanhlana Makhubu placed 3rd and 4th.
In the U12 Boys division, Daniel Emslie was on point and surfed his way to victory. Christian Venter secured 2nd place while Alex Townsend finished in 3rd and Brad Scott in 4th.
