Australian duo, The Presets, are set to perform for the first time in South Africa this weekend at both Rocking the Daisies and Vodacom In The City. We caught up with Julian Hamilton from the group to talk about their visit to South Africa and RTD. See what he had to say.
What knowledge do you have of the Rocking the Daisies music festival and what does it mean to you to be performing at it?
We only learnt about it when we were asked to perform at it. It sounds amazing. We are so excited to visit South Africa for the first time.
Which other bands are you looking forward to sharing the stage with at Rocking the Daisies?
Whatever I can! Normally we are so busy backstage getting ready for the show, or doing promo, or racing off to the airport that we don’t get a chance to hang out and check things out. But I am always discovering cool new bands I have never heard of at festivals.
How would you explain your stage presence and style of music?
Party time. Jump around. Boogie down.
Which South African bands are you excited to see perform live?
I’m sorry to say I don’t know any South African bands really. I’m hoping to discover some cool stuff at RTD.
What are you expecting from your first visit to South Africa?
My girlfriend is actually South African. Her parents came to Australia in the 1970’s So I feel like I already have a bit of an introduction to South Africa. At least I am used to the accent already.
What have been some of the bands highlights since you formed in 2003 and, will performing at Rocking the Daisies be added to that list of highlights?
I hope RTD will be added to the highlights! We’ve been doing The Presets for over 10 years now, so we’ve had a bunch of amazing experiences in that time. Some amazing shows of course – big cricket ground extravaganzas down to tiny sweaty night club shows. Making so many friends. Memorable meals. White nights in Norway. Heavy duty massage in Istanbul. Nightclub hopping in Berlin. Eating crickets and drinking mescal in Mexico. We have been very lucky to have visited some great places over the years.
Besides Rocking the Daisies and Vodacom In The City, what other things are you hoping to experience while in South Africa?
I think the promoters are taking us on safari for a couple of days before the show, so we are crazy looking forward to that. I’m also looking forward to meeting a zillion of my girlfriends relatives who are coming to the show.

Have fun! We are looking forward to having a great time and we can’t wait to meet you!
