Ultimate X takes place this Saturday, 25 February, at GrandWest Casino in Cape Town, and a host of international athletes are coming out to compete in both the BMX and Skateboarding disciplines.
USA’s Pat Casey is one of this athletes, as well as the defining Ultimate X BMX Champion. We caught up with Pat to get his thoughts on coming out to compete this year.

What are you looking forward to most coming back to South Africa?
I’m looking forward to getting to check out more things over there, and the adventures. The contest is always fun too.
What does it feel like to be the defending Ultimate X champion?
It’s cool, I’m honestly just excited to go back to Cape Town.
Who do you think will be your toughest competition?
I’m not sure. I just need to try to stay on my bike. Usually, if I can stay on my bike I do ok. Everyone in the contest is so good and anyone can win it.
Do you have any new tricks is your bag that you’ll be brining to Ultimate X?
I would say I do have new tricks, with time of riding you learn new stuff all the time. Just have to wait till the contest to see if I do them [laughs].

What can fans expect from your runs?
I’m honestly not sure until I see a course and know what I’m working with, but fans can expect me to stay on my bike.
What are you hoping to experience while out here that you didn’t get the chance to last year?
I didn’t get to check out Table Mountain last year, Penguin Beach and I really want to go on a Safari.
Any words for your fans in South Africa?
See you guys soon!
