Pat Casey is undoubtedly one of the most talented BMX riders on the planet with an arsenal of massive tricks and combos at his disposal, earning himself both a silver and bronze medals at X Games.
The exciting news is, the American will be in South Africa competing at Ultimate X 2016 on February 27th at GrandWest Casino in Cape Town. We caught up with Pat to get his thoughts on coming to SA and what we can expect from him.

This is your first time coming to South Africa. What are your expectations and what are you hoping to experience?
I’ve heard South Africa is beautiful, so I’m hoping to see the city, swim with the sharks and just have a good time riding and seeing all my friends.
How much do you know about Ultimate X and what are your thoughts on the event?
I’m not really sure about anything, Greg Illingworth helps organise everything and when the UK Monster team manager emailed asking if we were interested in coming, I definitely was.
You have a stack of achievements under your belt, what are some of your highlights of your career?
I’m most proud of my silver and bronze in X Games, hoping to add to the medals this year.
What does the sport of BMX mean to you?
BMX is my life. It’s a way for me to breathe, a way for me to completely get lost but stay grounded at the same time.
What are your goals for Ultimate X?
I want to do good at every contest I’m in, but I also want to have a good time and ultimately stay healthy.
What goes through your mind when you’re riding and competing?
Have fun, stay safe and do my personal best.
Do you know any of the other competitors and if so, who do you think will be your main competition?
I know of a few people going and everyone is my competition, but everyone is also my friend. Riding styles are so different and we all have what it takes to win.
What can fans expect from you and your riding style at Ultimate X?
I don’t know. It depends on the course and what I feel comfortable doing on it.
Being a park event, what are some of the bigger tricks we can expect to see from you?
I hope I can do a lot of my big tricks, but it depends on the course and how I’m feeling it.
What style of course suits you best and what features are your favourite to ride?
I think I like bigger courses, but I can still ride smaller ones if I have to. I Definitely like the spine and box jumps.
What will a win at Ultimate X mean to you?
If I won I would be proud of myself, but I’m happy to get the invite and to experience someplace new with all of my friends.
