Off The Lip Mo Retro Surfing Jam Results

Over 60 surfers gathered on the KZN North Coast at the Beach Bums Restaurant to compete in the Off The Lip Mo Retro Surfing Jam. Created by Quiksilver and Movember, the 70’s retro surf contest was an amazing event with a good vibe and all for a good cause.

Moustaches and 70’s surf outfits were the order of the day as surfers with single and twin fin surfboards hit the 3 to 4 foot clean waves. Spectators were treated to 70’s tunes while 10 sis-man heats took to the water. Competitors were judged on the use of their old school boards, originality and style. The ten heats were entertaining with the beach starts, wipeouts and down downs until a six-man final was selected.

In front of a bunch of lively spectators the final got underway in tricky conditions as the tide pushed up the beach. Michael February strung together flowing and stylish maneuvers to crack the nod over his rivals. Big wave surfer, Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker finished in 2nd place with an awesome tube ride during the final. Ryan Bisset finished in 3rd with Dan Redman in 4th, Matt Oakley in 5th and Justin Bing in 6th.

R8000 was raised through entries and the Quiksilver raffle with all proceeds going to CANSA, Movember’s health partner. The inaugural event was a great success and will definitely be hosted again next year.
