Novik gloves are a new brand on the market, whose gloves first catch your eye because of their bold colours and fresh new look. But when you look closer, they are not all flash, but function too. Used by new AMA Arena cross Champion Tyler Bowers, as well as Jeff Alessi, Matt Lemoine, Dennis Stableton, Kenny Bartram and Geoff Aaron just to name a few put their trust and hands in these gloves.
QUALITY
Right out of the packet the Novik That’s Cool gloves impressed me with their bold design, comfort and the way they were put together. As a pure minimalistic glove, they have no extra padding in the top side of the hand, while avoiding extra padding on the palm as well. They have everything from tacky rubber on the finger tips to stretch panels down the sides of the fingers. The sizing is spot on, and after a few months of riding, the colours are still as bright as when the packet was opened.
PERFORMANCE
While out on the MX track, the gloves worked flawlessly, with no bunching up on the palm, or sliding off due to the lack of a cuff. It was one of those gloves that you can slide on and just forget about, and that’s a good glove. Blisters or holes worn into the gloves have not been an issue in spite of the minimalist style of these gloves. I do suggest using grip donuts (available from Novik too) if you have a history of blisters on the thumb from the grip flange.
VERDICT
Motocross riders are extremely finicky and all have preferences regarding strap closure, sizing, padding and cut of gloves. For someone who likes minimalist gloves, the Novik That’s Cool glove is amazing. For others wanting more protection or a wrist closure, Novik have three other gloves to choose from. The Novik gloves are already a smash hit with MX riders and Downhill Mountain bikers.
