Some of SA’s top surfers and talented freesurfers hit Llandudno Beach in Cape Town this past weekend to try their hand on some of the weirdest shaped surfboards around in the Nixon Weird Board and Corona Party Wave surfing contest.

Perfect weather welcomed the surfers and spectators for what was set to be a fun filled day. Awesome 2 to 3 foot waves were the order of the day as the competitors hit the surf on the unique boards.
Shapers Eric Stedman, Dave Von Ginkel, Anton Butler, David Stubbs, Simon Fish, Dutchie, Glen D’Arcy, Thys Strydom and Glen Rowe presented their weird shaped boards to the competitors. Exited to be riding something different and new, the surfers put out some top class surfing on the different boards.

No matter what board he tried, Sean Holmes stayed his stylish self. Frank Solomon was having a blast on the unusual shaped boards. Mikey February pulled off some styling tricks and airs showing that it’s all about the surfer and not the board. Ryan Payne was another competitor who ripped no matter what boards he was on.

The final was action packed and fun filled with Mikey February riding on David Stubbs “Stubby” design, Ike Forsyth on Eric Stedman’s ESS Simmons Shape and Ryan Payne on a Dave Van Ginkle DVG board. In the end Mikey February took the top spot which also put David Stubbs as the winning shaper.

Steff Burrows won the R1000 for taking the Corona Party Wave win. The Nixon Weird Board surfing event was a whole lot of fun and a success. The guys at Nixon have decided to make it an annual event and keep the weirdness going. High five to that!
