Yesterday (Sunday 27th Jan) we ventured into the back roads of Ruimsig, JHB to find an awesome setup for the Mysophobia BMX Dirt Jump Comp that was taking place at a newly built set of trails called “Llama Land” that the likes of BMX riders Tim Dell and Duncan Fox had been working on and getting ready for the days sessions.
Supported by brands like Monster Energy, Unit Clothing, The Riot BMX and Purple Haze BMX the days vibe was set and awesome prizes put together for both the Amateur and Pro podium finishers. The Llama Land trails consist of two lines, one being the smaller line with two doubles and a kicker and the bigger line with two big doubles and then an option of hitting the berm to head into the small line or hitting another double over the berm.
The Amateur comp took place on the small line. A few guys struggled with getting the berm right in order to clear the first set but with enough persistence they nailed it. 3 guys stood out from the rest managing to nail all the jump and pull some pretty impressive tricks off the last kicker. Angelo Nel killed it with some dialled 360’s and Tailwhips to take 1st place ahead of Jean Snoer in 2nd and Martin Dejager in 3rd.
Amateur Podium:
1st – Angelo Nel
2nd – Jean Snoer
3rd – Martin Dejager
The Pros had the option of hitting the bigger line or the smaller line or both together. Angelo Nel decided to give the Pro comp a go after taking the win in the Amateurs. Most riders were making use of the smaller line and pulling off their tricks on the last kicker. Kyle Kiewiet and Paul Soderlund where nailing big tricks over the first two doubles of the big line. Paul with extended X-Ups and Turndowns and Kyle with huge 360’s going both ways and 360 Tailwhips. But it was Duncan Fox who was the most consistent on both lines and put together the cleanest runs including Backfliping the last kicker and landing a few stylish 180 to Fakie’s to take the overall. Paul Soderlund went home with 3rd place and Kyle Kiewiet with 2nd. Kyle was also rewarded with the best trick prize.
Pro Podium:
1st – Duncan Fox
2nd – Kyle Kiewiet
3rd – Paul Soderlund
All in all, Mysophobia was a great day out with some kick-ass BMX dirt action going down. The Llama Land trails are still new and we’re pretty sure that we’ll be seeing bigger and better events taking place in the near future and an even sicker setup.
