MXGP2 – Game Review

The most fun you’ll have on two wheels without actually being on two wheels. MXGP2 The Official Motocross Videogame is out now for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. We’ve spent the last week banging bars with the world’s best, railing ruts and scrubbing jumps to bring you our game review.

Compared to the inaugural MXGP game, MXGP2 is a massive improvement! Graphics are better, tracks are better, terrain is better, customisation is better, basically the whole experience is better (except the sound of the bikes).
In MXGP2 you have the option of racing with 63 real riders from more than 30 real race teams on 21 real tracks on real bike brands, all based on the official 2015 MXGP season. Or create your own rider and team and tackle the championship. There are also 4 fictional indoor tracks to add to the fun.

Game modes include Grand Prix, Championship, Time Attack, Career, MX of Nations (new) and Real Events (new). MX of Nations – Represent your nation and race with your teammates against teams from around the world to see who is the best. Real Events – This game mode lets you relive moments from the 2015 MXGP season with an objective and set of winning conditions to be achieved.

Career mode is our favourite, as your start off in the MX2 Class, building up your reputation and making your way up to the MX1 class, all with the mission of winning championships. Race in your own team or take offers from factory teams as you progress through the championship rounds.
There is a definite difference in speed and control between the smaller and bigger bikes, as well as stock and upgraded bikes.

MXGP2 hit the nail on the head with the customisation options on the bikes, rider and teams. Create your own team, choose a name and logo.
Customise your bike with a choice of liveries and accessories. Select the make of bike and choose from a selection of parts including Handlebars, gips, hand-guards, pipes, tyres, rims, suspension and brakes. Some option only change the look of the bike while other change the performance.
Rider customisation lets you buy various gear from various brands – Helmets, gear, boots, goggles and neck-braces. All with options of styles and colours.

The feel of riding/ racing the bikes in game is great and as realistic as can be. The terrain deforms as it would on a real MX track, ruts form and are ride-able. More aggressive and competitive AI riders, and improved riding and falling animations have been introduced. Assisted and realistic modes make for exciting racing as your skill progresses.
