Coming off two recent knee surgeries, Murray Loubser made his return to competition at the 2022 Park Lines BMX Tournament. Murray’s smooth, consistent and technical riding skills paid off as he took the win and was crowned the new Park Lines Champion.
We caught up with Murray to chat about the event, his highlights and more…
Full name: Murray Loubser
Hometown: The Mother City – AKA, Cape Town
Years riding: 10
Claim to fame: I make a real good apple crumble
Sponsors: Vans, Red Bull, Odyssey BMX, Sunday Bikes
How would you best sum up your experience at Park Lines 2022?
Good vibes, fire riding, friendly people, and too much fun.
What was your highlight moment of the day, and why?
It’s hard to put my finger on one moment, but if I had to it would probably be the stoke and high-fives after watching your mates, and myself of course, pull their run. Reason, not much is a better feeling than being stoked.
Coming into the contest, what were your expectations and were they reached?
I didn’t have many expectations coming into this comp. I just wanted to ride as well as I could, have a good time, and catch up with all the peeps. Had a better time than I could have imagined.
What was it like to ride the legendary Stoneridge park?
Man it’s so good, it offers up so many lines to unlock, a real nice consistent tranny around the park, and an endless amount of things to try. Can’t wait to ride there again.
Which riders impressed you the most and why?
Everyone [laughs]. It was so sick to see everyone shred. Though, it was awesome to watch Greg (Illingworth) shred around at his old local, fast and burley.
What do you feel an event like Park Lines does for BMX in South Africa and where would you like to see it go?
I recon it gives the local scene a reason to push and progress, and gives them something to look forward to every year. If it keeps on the way it’s going I would be hyped.
What would you like to see added to the next Park Lines BMX Tournament?
I’m always down to have a nice park layout with some street obstacles thrown in the mix.
What’s next for Murray Loubser?
Continuing to get more comfy on the bike, strengthen my knee after my two recent Surgeries, film a few projects, and hit a few more contests.
A big shout out to Ryan at LW Mag for making this event happen, all the people that pulled through on the day, and my sponsors that keep me doing what I love. Yeeew!
