Give us a quick introduction to Sian?
I am a makeup artist and hairstylist, come petite model. I got into the modelling game by working behind the scenes, and meeting photographers who asked to shoot with me. Due to being super tiny, 4ft11, I never thought modelling was viable but always wanted to do it as I have huge appreciation for the art of imagery, and the art of the female form. I have been modelling for years now and I still am amazed that it’s me in those shots, and so proud to be comfortable enough to pursue this artistic outlet.
What does a day in your life usually consist of?
I’m a clean freak, so first thing in the morning I tidy up [laughs]. I spend my time playing with makeup, filming makeup tutorials, planning shoots for myself and other models. I love creativity, so I’m constantly busy making things (as I have a degree in Fashion). I’m a busy-body in the day and hardcore chiller in the evenings.
What first attracted you to being in front of the camera?
Since I was a kid I was stopped by random people to take photos with them. From the age of 7 I was obsessed with the Supermodels of the 90’s. So when Garreth Barclay asked me to Model in our first shoot together in 2010, I went for it, and still to this day those shots are my mother’s favourite shots taken of me. He inspired me and gave me the confidence to keep pursuing this artistic outlet of being in front of the camera.
If you could live out your ultimate photo shoot, what would it entail?
I always wanted to do a shoot in a bed of roses, with roses covering the sensitive areas.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
That I’m actually quite sweet, despite my resting bitch face [laughs]. I’m cheeky in a funny way. I smoke weed – peeps are always shocked by that one. I was a gymnast for 14 years and a dancer for 16 years.
When not looking good in front of the camera or working, what do you like to do with you down time?
I’m a series addict. Netflix & chill with my man is my down time fav activity.
What are the top 5 things on your bucket list?
Donate large amounts of money to animal cruelty charities.
Travel throughout Europe.
Shop in Tokyo.
Take a hot air balloon in Cappadocia, Turkey.
Visit the Louvre in Paris.
How much has the pandemic effected your life?
Being a freelancer with International clientele who come to Cape Town to shoot in the summer months, the pandemic caused a halt in our peak season. I am a very money wise person, I like to make it and save it, so not capitalising on the peak season was devastating for me. I thank my father for teaching me how to be clever with money, thank G-d I have savings and investments.
With life returning to some type of normality, what are you looking forward to most this summer?
Working! I live to paint faces. Living a little, seeing friends and socialising.
What is one of the craziest things you’ve ever experienced?
Shooting with tame elephants.
If you could own and run any international brand, which would it be?
My own skincare and makeup brand, and a Vintage Clothing store, curated with items from all over the world, from all fashion eras.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
This pandemic has definitely caused a delay in my 5 year plan.
Develop my own skincare and makeup brand. Become a beauty mogul. Have a successful YouTube channel. Own property.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when we mention:
Attractive? Taking care of yourself.
Social media? Inspiration.
Late nights? Chocolate.
Summer holidays? Tropical anywhere.
Scary? Spiders and snakes.
Strong? To be confident in yourself.
