Give us a quick introduction to Mignon?
I am 19 years old and was born in Cape Town to a German mother and a Dutch father. I have a sister who is 3 years older than me. We are a very close family. I grew up speaking German to my mother and English to my father and went to the German School in Cape Town. I am now studying a BA PPE, which is a triple major in philosophy, politics and economics, at Stellenbosch University, where I live during the week, heading back to Hout Bay on most weekends.
You have a fairly unique name, tell us more about it and its meaning?
Since my parents are German and Dutch and also speak English and Afrikaans, they decided not to give my sister and I names that originated from any of those languages and chose French instead. My sister was called Celine after the singer Celine Dion. She was tiny when she was young (and still is quite short) so my parents, assuming I would be just as small, named me Mignon, which means “cute”. Ironically I am now one of the tallest in my whole family.
Now that summer is here, what are you looking forward to most this season?
I love the whole vibe and enthusiasm of the people in summer most. Everyone is just automatically happy and in a good mood. I also love the outdoors, which are obviously much nicer to explore when it’s warm outside. I am especially excited for the beach days and being able to wear shorts and dresses.
Do you consider yourself a beach babe?
Yes, as long as I do not have to go into the water. As mentioned before I hate cold water and Cape Town definitely has not got the warmest sea. I absolutely love to lie on the beach, absorbing the sun though. There is nothing better than to head to the beach with a couple of friends and lots of snacks.
What are your favourite things to do in and around Cape Town?
I love to go hiking in the mountains, go to the beach, and wine tasting is definitely one of my favourites. I also love exploring all kinds of different coffee shops with friends, going to festivals, the theatre and sunset cinemas.
What are your top five travel destinations?
Of the places I have been to, my favourites are:
Holland, because I love the scenery and the people. I could definitely see myself moving there some day. I also have a lot of family, which is nIce.
Thailand, because their islands are just amazingly beautiful, their people are very sweet and their sea is warm!
My family’s farm, close to the Cederberg, because it is totally cut off from civilisation, which is amazing to be in once in a while.
Italy, because it looks exactly like in the movies and the language is absolutely stunning.
Germany, because so so many of my closest friends, whom I miss, live there.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
I was bullied quite a bit in school when I was younger because I had a short, pixie haircut and didn’t fit into the standard girl stereotype.
What historic event would you have liked to experience first hand?
I would like to have met Leonardo da Vinci. He just seems to have been the most interesting and fascinating guy.
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
My dream is to go into the film industry one day, be it in acting, producing or directing. So Hopefully in 10 years I will be working on set, doing exactly what I’ve wanted to do since I was 10.
When it comes to guys, what type do you normally find yourself attracted to?
I like tall, funny, chatty, clever guys with nice back muscles. Most importantly he must be able to make me laugh and know exactly how to keep a conversation going.
Have you ever made the first move?
No. I am a very shy person when I don’t know someone. I am however guilty of hinting toward things in not so subtle ways.
What did you enjoy most about your photos shoot with Epix Shoots for this feature?
I absolutely love shooting with Shaun because he makes one feel good about oneself. Shooting in a public place in a bikini can be very scary and even embarrassing because all one can think about is, “what are these people thinking of me”. Shaun however constantly shouts out confident-boosting remarks, allowing the model to feel more beautiful in their own skin than ever before.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when we mention:
Intriguing? The people around me.
Life hack? Whatever happens, see the good side in things. Everything happens for a reason.
Turn on? Confidence.
Turn off? Arrogance.
Mondays? No thank you.
