Kings Cup 2011

LW had the opportunity to go up to Afriski and be a part of the annual Kings Cup event which took place from the 3 – 6 July. We didn’t compete in the actual event as our snowboarding skills are not up to scratch yet but we were there to cover the event and bring you some pics of what went down. Unfortunately there were no Snowboard park events such as slopestyle or big trick. This year the Kings Cup concentrated more on the Skiing and Snowboard slalom events but this didn’t detour the Snowboarders from hitting the park and throwing down some crazy jam sessions, showing off some new mad skills. Riders were looking impressive with new tricks in their bags which is going to make the upcoming Quiksnow SA National Snowboarding champs (29/30 July) one awesome, competitive event!

Afriski has definitely grown in quality as a resort with plenty of snow and the slope open all the way to the top. The new Sky restaurant is up and running and the Gondola Cafe never seizes to amaze with its Apres Ski atmosphere and awesome hot cups of gluhwein being served nonstop.

Check out the results from the Ski and Snowboard Slalom events:
