Another international BMX rider who will be heading out to South Africa for Ultimate X (27 and 28 Feb) and The Night Harvest (6 March) is Kevin Kalkoff. We caught up with the Frenchman to see what he had to say about the upcoming adventure.
How amped are you to be heading out to South Africa?
Pretty amped as its winter here at home and it’s hard to ride my bike. I can’t wait to be there to enjoy the sun, it’s been a while without it now.
You will be competing in both Ultimate X and The Night Harvest. How much do you know about these events and what are your thoughts on them?
Well, I’ve been to The Night Harvest the last two years and it’s always a good time on this nice location, the trails looks even better this year, can’t wait to jump it.
It will be my first time at Ultimate X and the park looks fun, this is going to be in the city, that’s sounds rad.
One being a park event and the other a dirt event, which are you looking forward to most and why?
Not one in particular really, I like to ride trail and it’s been a while so I’m looking forward to ride during The Night Harvest but also as it will be my first time riding at Ultimate X, I’m excited.
What are your goals for both Ultimate X and The night Harvest?
Just to have fun with my friends and to not get hurt. If it goes like that I will be happy and if I place at the contest, I’ll be even more stoked.
What can fans expect from your riding style at the events?
I don’t know, it’s hard to say before you haven’t seen the course in real but I think that I’ll do some wall ride and lines.
You have a big bag of tricks, which new ones are you working on and will we see them in SA?
I wouldn’t say that I have a big bag of tricks [laughs]. I’ll see when I get there, if there is something I have in mind that I can try.
What are you hoping to experience while over here?
This time I’d like to go to see some animals that we don’t have over here in Europe.
Any words for the masses that will be out supporting the events and the athletes?
Yes, that everyone should come if they want to have a good time and see some BMX action.
