Hailing from Jeffreys Bay and learning to surf right here at the Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay, explosive goofy-footed surfer Kai Woolf was always going to do well at an event here. She knows the wave well, and that local knowledge ensures that she picks up the good ones every time, as well as knowing which waves not to go on.

Kai also thrives on the competitive side of things when it comes to surfing, and loves to enter contests and to win heats and finals. She has been surfing contests and trials for a very long time and understands the needs and requirements to win heats.
Kai is a standout in all conditions, but her best performances always comes out when she is surfing on her backhand. This comes from all her formative years surfing the right-hand point-breaks of the Eastern Cape, and all those days and days of waves at Lower Point.
Kai’s performance at the end of day one was outstanding, one of the best of the day, with a 9.33 ride and a good 8-points plus on her second wave, making it one of the highest scoring rides of the day and one of the best performances thus far of the 5 day event.
The Billabong SA Junior Champs presented by BOS is one of the biggest and most popular events of the year on the busy South African Junior circuit. It awards individual titles as well as team titles via the prestigious Freedom Cup. Cape Town Surfriders are the current holders of the Freedom Cup, but Nelson Mandela Bay, who were 2nd in the team totals last year and Kai is a team member, are looking at taking the team win this year. With Kai behind the team push, there is a good chance that they cold do something.
