We caught up with lead guitarist from Taxi Violence, Rian Zietsman, to chat about the bands brand new album called Soul Shake and what they expect it to bring to the South African Music scene. The band will also be touring the country to promote the new album, so check out what Rian had to say and see what you can expect from the album and the tour.
Give us some insight into the new album “Soul Shake”. How long have you been recording and how did the tracks come about?
We recorded it in 2 sections, so in total we worked on it for just under a year. The songs are all new and were written with the album in mind.
What can fans expect from the new album and how much does it differ from you previous albums?
This is back to the roots for us. Straight up rock and roll. We learned a lot from recording our previous acoustic album, so there are some elements of that in Soul Shake as well, but it’s mostly upbeat stuff.
What tracks off the new album are your favourites and why?
I like a song called “Seize the Day”. It’s got a dark grungy sound but with a positive message.

Are you planning any music videos for any of the tracks and when can we expect to see them?
We’ve done 2 already, they are in the process of being edited. They are for “Brainmash” and “Love Sick Rock n Roll”. They should be ready very shortly.
You will be touring over the next month promotion Soul Shake. What are you planning to bring to each show and what should fans prepare themselves for?
We’ve worked out a very energetic set with some surprises.
What town/ venue are you most looking forward to playing at and why?
That’s hard to say – each town has its own charm. I am looking forward to Durban though.
Give us a rundown of the vibe on a Taxi Violence tour?
We take it pretty easy but like to hang out and drink stuff.
