We catch up with MMA fighter Danie “Pitbull” van Heerden ahead up his upcoming EFC Africa 18 fight against Jason Culverwell. See what he has to say about his fighting career and the upcoming fight night.

How long have you been fighting for and was it always MMA or did you get involved in the sport later on in your career
I started MMA in October 2009, did wrestling and boxing for a year with one boxing fight.
What about MMA attracted you to the sport?
There isn’t a limit in learning.
Where would you like to see your MMA career go?
I’d like to become World Champ.
Explain to us what goes through your mind on fight night and when you walk into the cage?
I only focus on the game plan and my opponent.
What has been your most memorable fight and why?
My fight against Sean Craig. I won on points after 3 rounds he almost broke my leg.
Do you have a different game for each opponent or is it the same every time you step in the cage?
Different game plan for each opponent.
What is does your weekly training regime consist of?
Come to Walter Wentd and see for yourself.
You have taken on a last minute fight at the upcoming EFC Africa 18 against Jason Culverwell. How do you think this will affect your performance and have you had to change up your training to be ready for the fight in time?
I still know I’m going to win this, I don’t mind the short notice fight. I’m a fighter that’s what we do and yes I will be ready for Jason on fight night, the only difficulty on the short notice fight is I have to cut the weight.
What song will you be walking out to?
Enruiqe ,I like how it feels.
What do you think Jason’s game plan will be and what is your plan to combat it?
I think Jason is going to go for the take down and try and keep me down or submit me, he won’t trade with me. I’ll be ready for everything.
How do you see the fight playing out on fight night?
Jason going to tap due to ground and pound.
