A perfect day of surf dawned for the competitors on day 3 of the Hurley SA Junior Champs at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay. Perfect four-foot waves, light winds and a little bit of drizzle that soon dried up.

The repecharge rounds came to an end and it became sudden death for all spectators with the top two surfers advancing and the bottom two being eliminated.
Bevan Willis from KZN Central smashed his first U17 round 3 heat, surfing powerfully on the solid waves and easily beating Braiden Coates from Zululand into second. Bevan Wills has really come into his own recently, impressing all with his flair and power, and getting good results over he recent contest season.

Jerry Van Wyk from Eastern Province was another surfer who impressed, blasting his way into the lead with some big turns and throwing plenty of spray to impress the judges, outpointing Jason Mendonca from Boland into second.

The predicted horror onshore wind failed to arrive, and he contest director decided to hold the U15 Girls off, as the waves were solid, and send the U15 Boys round three into the water. Stand out surfer of the round was Koby Oberholzer from KZN central, who easily took out heat 5. Last year the contest was hit by a massive storm, and there were many people who thought that the waves were too big to surf. Until Koby paddled out, that is, and picked up an 8-foot bomb, showing the contestants and spectators that the waves were actually extremely good, and setting the tone for one of the best days of surfing that the Hurley SA Champs had ever seen.
In this heat Koby picked up a 7-point ride and backed it up with a 6.25 to stay in the lead all the way till the end. David Bartholomew from KZN Central was a close second.

Top performers in the U17 Round 4 were Matt McGillivray from EP and Richard Kidd from KZN Central.
