The first event of the 2016/17 WSL Big Wave Tour took place over the weekend, the Puerto Escondido Challenge. Massive beach-break conditions tested 25 of the world’s best big wave surfers.
South Africa’s Grant “Twiggy” Baker but on a brilliant performance in the Mexican event, storming through the semi’s with a victory before winning the final with a Perfect 10.
Baker showcased precise and technical surfing throughout the final and took control over the field. He was awarded the Perfect 10 for escaping a huge tube, which ultimately cemented his victory. Baker’s combined score in the final was 27.50 out of a possible 30.
