South Africa’s surfing legend Grant “Twiggy” Baker has won the 2014 Big Wave World Tour and has been crowned the World Champion. Baker racked up more than double the points of any of his competitors during the Xpreshon BWWT season.
After winning the 2 opening events at Punta Galea in Spain and Mavericks in California the 40 your old Durban based surfer went on to take 3rd place at Nelscott Reef in Oregon putting himself into a huge points lead. The final event at Tados Santon in Mexico didn’t run and Baker had to wait until the close of the season, 31st March to be official crowned.
Baker stated that he gave it his all this year and basically put his personal life on hold and went for it. He lost his sponsor going into the season and knew he had to raise his game and compete in order to keep getting paid to surf. This paid off after his win at Mavericks when he picked up VISSLA and Isurus wetsuits and upped his existing sponsors with BOS Ice Tea and Future Fins.
We’d like to wish Grant Baker a huge congrats being crowned the World Champion as well as wish him all the best for the upcoming season that gets started later this month.
