Fuzigish is undoubtedly one of SA’s heavyweight Punk Rock Reggae bands, their unique sound and energy filled live performances have earner them a huge mass of South African music fans and popularity. Too add to their arsenal of awesomeness, Fuzigish are about to drop their brand new album entitled Crazy Friends and we can’t wait to get our hands on a copy. We caught up with lead vocalist/ guitarist, Jay Bones and chatted about the new release.
It’s been a while since you released your last album. What’s has been going on in the lives of Fuzigish leading up to this new album?
Stuff. Life. Living. If I start to think about this question it could lead to system failure, and may create a wormhole. We been busy.
How long have you been working on this new album?
We started at the beginning of the year. There were a few songs that had been around in some form or another for a few years. Actually the ‘Crazy Friends’ chorus was written in like 2006, but never completed as a song really. A few other songs like ‘S.A.S.’ and ‘Party-4-1’ have been around for ages and just waiting for a chance to get recorded. Another track was originally called ‘Buy Some Merch’, then later became ‘Less Than Jazz’ before eventually turning into the song on the album called ‘Stuff’. The other 12 were written between January and May 2013.
What are some of the most memorable moments during the making of this album?
Tom Hughes has joined the band on drums, and this is his first album with Fuzi. He comes from a metal background and is used to being pretty busy on the drums. When he had finished the final drum track he came out the studio and said “I don’t think I did enough?” and I said “You probably did too much!”.
Can fans expect the same unique sounds of Fuzigish or have you changed anything up with this new album?
It’s the same but different. Definitely different to other albums but it will immediately be recognizable as Fuzi.
How many tracks will feature on the new album?
16 tracks.
We’ve been listening to the newly released single “Crazy Friends” and it rocks! What other singles off the album do you think will become fan favourites?
Hard to say. I look forward to hearing from the punters and reading the reviews. There is a song called ‘Question Everything’ that seems to resonate with a lot of people and it is a bit different for Fuzi, but I really believe in all the songs, so I could not say. I think it’s all killer and no filler as some band from Canada once said.

What tracks on the album mean the most to you and why?
Impossible to say. Which child is your favourite?
Will we be seeing any music videos for any of the singles?
Hopefully, but not promising anything. We’ve never been too worried about music videos, although if you look at the music industry today it is probably more important than the music! I think we would like to and I hope we do make a video. All the videos we have made to date are us playing live, maybe we just might make one that is different.
What would your ultimate music video entail?
To me it would involve volcanoes. Maybe two or three, as well as potentially spider-dogs, commonly known as spigs. Then there would be a chase and escape sequence, followed by bikini girls with machine guns. I would also like my mom and dad to make a cameo.
Ultimately, what can fans expect from the new Fuzigish album?
16 tracks, 32 minutes. Song to inspire and perspire to.
Besides your launch gig on Saturday night will you be doing a nationwide tour to promote the album? If so, please give us he details?
There some Gauteng shows and then we hit Cape Town’s Mercury Live on 13th December and Durban’s Live The Venue on the 14th December.
What other gigs have you got lined up that you cannot wait to rock out at?
Halloween at Arcade Empire on the 1st November.
If you had to compare the band and the new album to when you just started out and released your first album, what would the outcome be?
No idea. Feels the same.
What’s next for Fuzigish?
Cult. Yip probably start Cult o’Fuzi. Seems the logical thing to do.
