EFC Africa 30 Fight Review

MMA fans were spoiled at Grand West Casino in Cape Town last night as EFC Africa 30 came to town with 12 epic fights. The very anticipated “Superfight” between Boyd Allen and Don Madge was nothing less than spectacular showing that both athletes are top class Mixed Martial Arts warriors. Here’s our review of what went down on fight night.

Fight 1: Nathan Fredericks vs Sindile Manengela

Winner: Nathan Fredericks
Fredericks come into the fight strong and dominated throughout the fight picking Manengela apart. Manengela managed to hang on until round 3 when the fight was called seeing Fredericks take the win by TKO. A great performance from EFC Africa debutant fighter.

Fight 2: Anthony Mailer vs Tshilomba Mulumba

Winner: Anthony Mailer
Muluma went in aggressive with big strikes, Mailer took a beating but remained composed. In round 2 Mulumba came out strong again and got Mailer into a tight Triangle Choke. Mailer survived and got out, the fight went back to standing and Mailer got Mulumba’s back, locked in a Rear Naked Choke forcing Mulumba to tap out.

Fight 3: Roelof Scheepers vs Champion Dalcha

Winner: Champion Dalcha
Dalcha took Scheepers down early, 59 seconds into round 1 and saw him take the win by verbal submission.

Fight 4: Saxon Delafield vs Shaun de Lange

Winner: Shaun de Lange
A tough fight that saw Delafield in top position when the fight was on the ground but De Lange landed good strikes from the bottom. De Lange turned it and destroyed Delafield with big hits. The ref called the fight and De Lange took the win by TKO in round 1.

Fight 5: Didier Kilola Lubika vs Ricky Misholas

Winner: Didier Kilola Lubika
Didier went in aggressive with big hits. Misholas fought back and what was set to be a good stand up trade was stopped by Didier when he knocked Misholas out 1 minute 44 seconds into the fight.

Fight 6: Sibusiso Mdoko vs Alain Ilunga

Winner: Sibusiso Mdoko
Round 1 saw nonstop battle in the clinch. In round 2 Illunga dropped Mdoko with a body kick but Mdoko turned it and landed heavy strikes. The ref called the fight and Mdoko took the win by TKO.

Fight 7: Gordon Roodman vs Bruno Mukulu

Unanimous Draw
A great 3 round battle that saw a lot of strikes taken and given by both fighters. Mukulu got in control toward the end of the fight but a point deducted for a low blow earlier in the fight cost him. The fight went to the judges who called the fight a unanimous draw.

Fight 8: Igeu Kabesa vs Regis Muyambo

Winner: Igeu Kabesa
Kabesa was just too strong for Muyambo in this fight. Muyambo went in for the takedowns but Kabesa controlled it and turned it in his favour. Kabesa got in top mount and landed ground and pound, Muyambo was trying to get out but couldn’t. The fight was called and Kabesa took a convincing win by TKO.

Fight 9: Marcel Teniers vs David Buirski

Winner: David Buirski
Teniers went in aggressive and landed a good hit cutting the eye of Buirski. Buirski remained calm and took the fight to the ground, got into full mount and landed elbow after elbow. Teniers was defending well but couldn’t get away from Buirski’s onslaught. The ref called it seeing Buirski take the win by TKO.

Fight 10: Brendon Groenewald vs Elvis Moyo

Winner: Brendon Groenewald
Groenewald came into the fight knowing he needed to take it to the ground and he did just that. Moyo held onto Groenewald neck but Groenewald got out and got himself into full mount, landed ground and pound until the ref called the fight. A great fight for Groenewald seeing him earn a shot at the title.

Fight 11: Irshaad Sayed vs Charlie Weyer

Winner: Irshaad Sayed
Weyer went into the fight quick and aggressive, landing punches and kicks. Weyer then went in for the takedown and the fight went to ground with Sayed in top position. Sayed landed huge knees from his side control position, then got Weyers back and locked in a Rear Naked Choke. Weyer was forced to tap out.

Fight 12: Done Madge vs Boyd Allen

Split Draw
Dubbed the “Superfight” and it was nothing less. This fight went all 5 round and was filled with intense and brutal fighting. Both Madge and Allen were well conditioned and remained composed throughout the fight. It was a stand up war, trade for trade. Allen was strong with his combo’s, elbows and uppercuts. Madge got stronger as the fight drew on landing some heavy hits and leg kicks. The fight only went to the ground twice, at the end of round 4 and 5, with Madge in top position both times. Both fighters were a bloody mess as round 5 came to the end. The fight went to the judges who scored it 48-47 Madge, 49-46 Allen and even 49-49, a split draw.
