Dawn of the Dirt Review

The Garden Route Trail Park and Monster Energy teamed up to put on the Dawn of the Dirt event to officially open up the new Dirt Jump line that had recently been built. SRAM also got involved, and together with the Trail Park, put together a fantastic Enduro race to ensure that there was something for all types of riders.

Review from the Dawn of the Dirt BMX and MTB dirt jam and enduro
The plan for the weekend originally was to have the Enduro race on the Saturday and the BMX and MTB jam on the Sunday, but the possibility of rain meant that both events would be moved to the Saturday, with the Enduro race in the morning and the Dirt Jam later in the afternoon.

Saturday morning arrived along with a solid turnout of riders all ready to race Enduro and have a good time on some fantastic single track. The weather and trail conditions couldn’t have been any better for a race and the level of excitement was easily seen on the faces of the riders.

Dawn of the Dirt Enduro
The race consisted of six stages, each allowing the riders to really put their skills to the test. At the end of the event there was only one rider who could claim the victory, and that rider was David Rigby who consistently put down solid times on all of the stages and definitely earned himself the win.

After the Enduro wrapped up, everyone gathered at the pump track and jump line to watch the BMX and MTB riders warm up on the jumps and session the air bag jump.

Once the riders were warned up the Dirt Jam kicked off with riders were throwing down trick after trick on the new jumps, putting on a show for all of the spectators. Overall the majority of riders were loving the new jumps and sessioned the whole line. One feature on the new line, the “boner” log posed a bit of a problem for a few of the riders who just couldn’t get their heads around it.

All of the riders were throwing down hard for the fans but there had to be some winners, and they were Justin Novella in the MTB category and Malcolm Peters in the BMX category. Both stood out against the rest and went bigger and crazier than the rest of the field.

Overall it was a fantastic day at the Garden Route Trail Park with some insane riding. A big shout out to Monster Energy for making this event possible and to SRAM for their support.
