Celebrating BMX Day 2023, riders gathered at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town where DIY obstacles were laid out, resulting in unique and creative setups to ride.
High Hop Contest
Everyone got involved until only two riders were clearing the bar, Josh Carnell and Thomas Greenwood. The two battled it out over the 100cm mark, with Josh clearing it and claiming the Highest Hop of the day.
Mini Spine and Red Bull Tea Cup Jam
Riders battled it out for the spot prizes of cash and bike parts. Peter Bentley ruled the setup with smooth gap to Manuals, 180’s and Turn Downs through and out the tea cup. All the riders sent it, with Thomas Greenwood, Morgan O’Kennedy, Jason Prins and Werner Matthee prominent standouts.
Rail Jam
All the street assassins got involved, and the Zombie Crew dominated. Rob Davies walked away with the best tire ride line with a manual pegs to manual to tire ride on the round rail to Barspin out. Michael came in hot with crook crank 180’s pegs hard 180 bars and other technical madness. Liam Mercury also absolutely smashed the Rail Jam. In the end it was Zaid Dante who came away with the title.
Long Jump Contest
Riders were maxing out their gears, going full send into hopping an absurd distance. Dylan Lamb walked away with the win with Liam Mercury hot on his tail.
Foot Down Contest
Last but not least, and as always, it was rowdy and very entertaining. Werner Matthee was a tank and unstoppable, ploughing through to a sturdy win.
All in all, and amazing day of riding, good vibes and much stoke.
