What were your first impressions when seeing the new Audi Nines course and venue?
Insane! You come into the riders lounge and look across the quarry, and it just looks insane. It’s a work of art, different stages, different levels, it looks amazing!
What does The Audi Nines mean to you?
It is to me one of the best things ever. It’s a contest but doesn’t feel like a contest. It a jam format and you get to do whatever you want, the riders get to call the shots. Coming to a place like this where you can spend more time figuring out your line or working on a specific clip to get the best clip, and everyone’s just chopping in, everyone’s just screaming, everyone’s having a gas.
In saying that, you obviously prefer the new contest format?
The new format is way better than last year because it kinda felt like a contest and all the fun kinda goes away – your name gets called, you’re dropping in, you gotta do certain things. Here it is super chilled, you can get the best out of your abilities without any stress.
How does the course suit your riding style?
The course is perfect. I’m a Slopestyle/ Dirt Jump rider, now moving out to All-Mountain/ Freeride/ Downhill and I can bring every single discipline I have, every single skill from all the tricks. I’m running my Downhill bike, having fun, just sending it and having a gas.
Which feature on the course is your favourite?
The first big hip! You’ve got the horrible 6 meter drop, which you’re stepping out 9 meters, into this huge 18 meter hip It’s the best feeling.
Take us through your bike setup for Audi Nines?
I’m running a Scott Gambler and I’ve changed a few things. I’m running Fox 40s up front, fully maxed out on tokens, 90psi and slowed down everything so it’s rock solid. I was here on a coil on my rear shock with a 550 spring and it was just too soft, so I made quick phone call and Brendan Fairclough brought an air shock in for me, and that is maxed out on 300psi.
Which riders impressed you the most?
Everyone impressed me, cause everyone was sending it. Actually Sam Pilgrim, he was doing everything. Nicholi Rogatkin, always sending it. Bienvenido (Aguado) – sending it. And, Adolf (Silva), always a favourite to watch.
Take us through your perfect Audi Nines line?
Basically just having fun. There’s a few things like standard big Whips, big Flips, Superman’s, Indy’s. I would like to No-Foot Can the big hip.
