In this quick series we’re going to introduce you to a selection of top South African junior surfers who are set to compete in the Billabong Junior Series Grand Finale at Seal Point in Cape St Francis. The event is set to take place over the long weekend of 25 – 27 September.
Surfer Profile No5 – Joshe Faulkner

Hailing from Pellsrus near Jeffreys Bay, Joshe Faulkner has consistently been one of the best junior surfers in the country, always placing in finals and quietly chipping away at points and ratings.
Last year, 2014, Joshe was the only surfer from the Eastern Cape selected to compete in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Ecuador as part of the South African Junior Team. Joshe went into the event seeded 4th in the U16 division. He finished up in 6th place, the highest placed South African in Ecuador.
This year he was also one of the 24 selected surfers to compete in the JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA. This trial event was the precursor to the JBay Open, with the winner of the Supertrial getting a slot into the main event. While he didn’t win the Supertrial, he did perform well at Supertubes during the event, and showed that he can up the ante when required at waves like Supertubes.
Joshe goes into the Billabong Junior Series presented by BOS as a favourite. His backhand performance on the right-hand point-breaks of the Eastern Cape is strong and fast, and he knows the waves at Seal Point well.
Joshe has been supported by the JBay surf community and the local surf industry, and is a Billabong team rider. Apart from his strong surfing attack, Joshe is also a fun guy to be around, and always has a smile on his face no matter what the situation.
He still has a few years in the junior divisions, so Joshe is predicted to dominate the junior surfing results in the upcoming years – a name to watch out for.
Joshe will also b competing in the Billabong SA Junior Champs presented by BOS that will take place next week at the Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay.
